The head of a leading childcare charity has welcomed the Welsh Government’s announcement a record number of disadvantaged two-year-olds are benefitting from its Flying Start scheme.

Purnima Tanuku, Chief Executive National Day Nurseries Association Cymru said:

"High quality early learning and childcare can make a huge difference to disadvantaged two-year-olds.Spending time in a nursery with experienced, skilled staff helps children develop social and life skills."

It is important as many children as possible are able to benefit from Flying Start and local authorities need to work in partnership with as many providers as possible. There is a really important role in that provision for PVI nurseries who are experts in providing an age appropriate environment for two-year-olds to play.
