National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) welcomes the Growing up in Scotland ten-year report which shows improving health and education outcomes for children.

The study looked at 10,000 children and focussed on socio-economic and health inequalities between children from advantaged and disadvantaged backgrounds.

NDNA’s Chief Executive Purnima Tanuku OBE, said: “Although there is still some way to go to tackling inequalities in Scotland with regards to children’s life chances, it clearly shows the benefit of high quality early learning in improving children’s development.

“Children who attended high quality settings were more equal to their peers from more advantaged backgrounds by the time they started school and showed an improved vocabulary at age five. It's vital the right investment goes hand in hand with the government's priority on expanding hours and widening access to free childcare and early learning, to ensure high-quality provision that makes a difference for children's futures.”
