A

Adult-led learning

An approach which involves the adult having control over the instruction and guiding the child through a learning experience. 


Assessment

The process of observing, documenting, and evaluating a child's progress and development to inform educational strategies. 


Attachment

The emotional bond that forms between a child and their primary caregiver(s), which is crucial for healthy emotional and cognitive development.

Bilingual education

Providing instruction in two languages to support the development of proficiency in both languages e.g. Welsh/English 


Block play

Construction play using building blocks or similar materials that support spatial awareness, problem-solving, and imaginative thinking.

Child development

The process of physical, cognitive, social, and emotional growth that children undergo as they mature. 


Child-centred approach

A teaching philosophy that places the child's interests, needs, and abilities at the centre of the learning process. 


Child-led learning

An approach where children take the initiative in directing their own learning experiences, often guided by their interests. 


Child’s voice

Children express their thoughts, ideas and beliefs and wishes so their caregivers can listen to and understand the child’s experience and point of view, keeping the child at the centre of their work. 


Circle time

A group activity where children engage in discussions, stories, songs, and other activities, usually with a small number of children.
